I would like to thank our members for entrusting me with guiding GCABJ the past two years. As the new year brings another opportunity to get down to the business of educating students who are our future journalists, 2014 also affords us the chance to enhance our presence in the community.
in 2013 we awarded $1,000 in scholarship monies, held a management workshop for high school and college students, participated in a day of empowerment at the Mobile TEEN Center and concluded the year with a successful toy drive benefiting clients of the Sickle Cell Disease Association- Mobile Chapter as well as the Mobile TEEN Center. Over 1,000 diapers were distributed along with a variety of toys, sippy cups, wet wipes, clothing, hair clips and other appropriate items for clients of both organizations. In spite of our success, our work is just beginning.
I would like to personally thank our Board of Directors who have been diligent in their service to not only our organization, but to our community.
As we embark upon 2014, I ask that you please look around your newsrooms, news stations, public and media relations offices as well as your classrooms and encourage co-workers to join or rejoin GCABJ. We need you now more than ever!
" Journalism can never be silent: That is the greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It must speak, and speak immediately, while the echoes of wonder, the claims of triumphs and the signs of horror are still in the air."-Henry Anatole Grunwald
